Description
Seiko built its reputation on chronographs and tool watches, and the Prospex Speedtimer SSC947P1 carries that lineage in a 41.4mm round Solar Quartz (calibre V192) chronograph with a yellow sunburst dial and stainless steel bracelet, one of the many Seiko watches we stock.
Case & crystal
The round case is stainless steel, 41.4mm across and 13mm thick, and the bracelet is also stainless steel. A sapphire crystal covers the dial, and a bi-directional blue and red (Pepsi) tachymeter bezel frames it.
Dial
The yellow dial has a sunburst finish that shifts in tone as the light moves across it. Black sub-dials add contrast, and applied luminous indices and luminous hands keep the time legible in low light. A date window sits at 4 o'clock, and one sub-dial doubles as the power reserve indicator (F/E).
Movement
Calibre V192 is a solar quartz movement, so light charges it and no battery change is routinely needed. Complications are date, chronograph, small seconds, power reserve indicator and tachymeter, the last read from the bezel scale.
Bracelet & fit
The stainless steel bracelet closes with a three-fold clasp with push button release, which keeps the fit secure and makes it quick to put on and take off.
On the wrist
At 41.4mm in diameter and 13mm thick, this is a watch with real wrist presence, suited to average and larger men's wrists. The chronograph layout and bold dial point it towards everyday and sport wear, though the steel bracelet keeps it comfortable for casual business dress too.
Water resistance
The watch is water resistant to 100 metres, which covers swimming, showering and water sports. It is not intended for diving.

Supplied with the 3-year international Seiko warranty, valid when purchased from an authorised retailer and registered at purchase through Cassims & Co. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship; it does not cover normal wear, batteries, straps, glass, or damage from misuse or water ingress through an unscrewed crown.
Our watch service centre in Johannesburg handles warranty work, batteries, bracelet sizing and servicing.
Care guide
- Expose the dial to bright light regularly so the solar cell keeps the power reserve indicator (F/E) towards F.
- Wipe the stainless steel case and bracelet with a soft, slightly damp cloth, and dry them after contact with water.
- Rinse in fresh water after sea or pool use, as the watch is water resistant to 100m.
- Avoid pressing the chronograph pushers while the watch is submerged.
- Use a soft brush on the bracelet links and three-fold clasp to clear dust and skin oils.
- Have the watch checked through professional servicing at intervals to maintain its water resistance.
